Mehendi and Haldi Photography Ideas for Bengali Weddings

Mehendi and Haldi Photography Ideas for Bengali Weddings

If you only add one extra day of photography to your wedding budget, make it the haldi and mehendi. The pressure is low, the colours are loud, and the family is actually awake. These are the frames couples hang on their wall.

Shots worth planning for

  • Turmeric being applied in a circle around the bride, shot from above
  • Hands and feet detail while the mehendi is still wet and glossy
  • The first look at the finished mehendi in daylight, not flash
  • Flower petals, marigold strings and other decor details
  • Siblings and cousins in group frames before everyone gets busy
  • A slow-motion clip of the haldi splash for the film edit

Colour is the whole point

Marigold, turmeric, red and green make loud backgrounds, so we choose simple backdrops — a plain wall, a bamboo fence or the shaded side of a courtyard — and let the colours do the work. Flashing these scenes washes them out, so we prefer natural light whenever possible.

Haldi photographs are the only ones where nobody is nervous. Use them.

How to schedule it

Ask the family to gather for the haldi in the morning when the light is soft, and keep the mehendi session in the afternoon shade. Two hours of coverage is usually enough for both if you decide in advance what you want.

Our haldi and mehendi coverage can be added to any wedding package as a half-day booking.
