Monsoon Wedding Photography: How We Shoot in the Rain

Monsoon Wedding Photography: How We Shoot in the Rain

Some couples deliberately choose a monsoon date because the rates are lower and the venues are free. Others have no choice. Either way, a rainy wedding does not have to mean dull photographs.

Preparing for water

  • Rain covers for every camera body and a dry bag for spare lenses
  • Silica pouches in the camera bag to fight condensation
  • Microfibre cloths in every pocket and a lens hood on at all times
  • Backup bodies kept completely dry and switched off until needed
  • A torch and a spare LED panel for sudden indoor shifts

Turning rain into an advantage

Wet ground, umbrella silhouettes, reflections in a courtyard puddle, the moody grey light before a storm — these are frames you simply cannot create in December. We look for them deliberately instead of hiding from them.

The rain is not the enemy. The enemy is a photographer who left the rain cover at the studio.

Practical advice for couples

Plan the outdoor session with a plan B that is not the same pandal. A covered veranda, an empty shopfront or the corridor of a community hall all work when it pours. And keep one clean dupatta dry for portraits, because wet silk photographs beautifully on the ground but terribly on the shoulder.

Ask us about an off-season monsoon package and we will include weather cover in the plan from day one.
